Senior Advisor for Sustainable Communities and Visiting Researcher, US Environmental Protection Agency and Resources for the Future
Matthew Dalbey is a proven thought leader in developing community-driven economic revitalization strategies at the local, state, and federal level. These strategies focus on identifying economic drivers, build on existing assets, and support economic growth that improves environmental and human health outcomes.From January 2021 until January 2024 his work at the US Environmental Protection Agency was focused on the energy sector transformation and how federal agencies could support economic revitalization and diversification in the communities most impacted by this ongoing change. In 2024, through the Intergovernmental Personnel Act (IPA), he is a visiting researcher at Resources for the Future (RFF). While at RFF, he is researching and writing about private and public sector collaboration as well as policy solutions that could better assist with economic diversification in fossil energy communities.From 2014 to 2022 he led EPA's Office of Sustainable Communities (later renamed Office of Community Revitalization).He is also an adjunct faculty member with George Washington University's Sustainable Urban Planning program
